Hi, I'm new.

My wedding's 4 months away and I'm trying to lose about 30 lbs by then. 30 pounds! you say? Well 30's just a drop in the bucket when you're over 200, so it really isn't that big a deal.

My current routine is this:

1) Workout at Curves whenever possible (I work there, and working out while on the clock isn't as possible as I'd like it to be)

2) 30 minutes of cardio (usually on the elliptical) at least 5 days a week

3) Lift weights/use machines 3-4 times a week. I need some help with the free weights. I basically have no idea what do do. Any pointers?

4) Try to avoid excessive carb consumption. I'd like to be following the South Beach diet, but time and money are making it very difficult.

5) Keep daily caloric intake under 1500. I totally made this number up. It's slightly higher than what I've been averaging recently. I don't know what a good number is.

So, that's that. Any advice?

Hello! ^_^

Wow, that sounds like a lot of great exercise! Just be careful about your intake, because if you're working out that much, 1500 might be a little skimpy. You don't want your body to go into starvation mode - you'll end up storing it instead of spending it!

Good luck! We'll all support you! ^_^

Yeah, that's kind of the problem... I have no idea how many calories I'm actually supposed to be eating. I'm guessing it's more than what I'm eating now. Do you have any idea how I can find out?

I really don't know. :( 1500 just sounded a bit small to me...you could probably just check the FDA's nutritional guidelines online to find out for sure...maybe I'm wrong!

Hm. According to Shape Magazine, it should be more like 2250. I don't think I've eaten that much in a single day in my life! How did I get so fat eating so little?

Oh yeah... I know! I didn't eat in highschool or college, effectively anihilating my metabolism. Awesome!

Yeah, I think it was my eating habits more than actual calorie consumption that screwed me over...I think the way you eat has so much more to do with it than how much you actually eat...I see skinny people just chowing down, and they never put on an ounce...there ought to be a measurable way to see what's best for your metabolism...you know, what foods to eat, what portions, how much exercise you need, etc - to determine the most efficient way...

:shrugs: oh well. Not gonna be me that figures it out.
